Kolsay Lake
Kolsay is located on the north slope of the Tian Shan Mountains, southeast Kazakhstan. The park boundary is 120 kilometressoutheast of Almaty. If you love pure nature you should probably visit this wonderful place. It is a quite popular destination among the nature lovers and tourists. All high mountain lakes are surrounded by coniferous forest. The view is amazing. The lower lake is about 1 km long, 400 meters wide, and 80 meters in depth. The middle lake is the largest of the three, and reaches a depth of 50 meters. The upper lake is surrounded by spruce trees and alpine meadows. It is 6 km from the Sara-Buluk pass and Kyrgyzstan.
Kaindy Lake
Lake Kaindy (Kaiyndy), located in the Tien Shan mountain system at an altitude of about 1900 meters above sea level, is a natural landmark of Kazakhstan. It was formed in January 1911 after a strong earthquake, which resulted in a mountain collapse that blocked the river – and the valley was filled with water. In the late 80s of the last century, the area of the lake decreased after the passage of a mudflow flood. To date, the length of the reservoir is 400 meters, and the depth is 25 meters.
The origin of the lake
By the standards of natural processes, the lake can be called young – it was formed only about a century ago as a result of an earthquake. A strong landslide blocked the gorge and the water flooded the glade with coniferous trees. Cold water, whose temperature even in summer does not exceed 6 degrees, did not allow the needles to decompose and the trunks of trees are clearly visible through the clear surface of the water. This creates a halo of mystical splendor around the lake.
